On October 31, 1999, I escaped the grips of land for a two week Caribbean freighter cruise adventure aboard the 491 ft. German container vessel "Katrin S." While aboard, I explored the ship from bow to stern, from the “monkey island” above the bridge to the steamy depths of the cargo holds, and all points in between. I created this site to share what I learned about freighters and freighter cruising. Within these pages, I discuss what life is like aboard ship for passengers, officers and crew. I write about various technical aspects of the ship, such as engine characteristics and navigation equipment. I have also included a collection of photographs from the voyage.
